Golf course CASTLE MOKRICE

Set in the hilly landscape of Slovenia’s Dolenjska region, nestling amid parkland in the lee of the stunning, medieval Mokrice Castle, with far-reaching views of the surrounding vineyards and countryside, the Golf Course Castle Mokrice offers beginners and experienced golfers alike plenty of opportunities to enjoy a variety of challenges on its lush, tranquil greens. Designed by architect Donald Harradine, the 70 hectare golf course has 18 expertly planned greens that provide a diverse and enjoyable game. Each hole has been specifically designed to test the golfer with different skills, but the Par 4, fifth hole will challenge even the most experienced golfer. It is Mokrice’s most difficult and many claim, one of the most testing in Europe. A clean tee-off and a drive of at least 200 metres down the fairway is essential to stand the chance of reaching the green with the second shot. With a fairly narrow fairway, a slope to the left and a water hazard to the right, ultimate success is down to the skill, or maybe luck, of the player on the day. Play winds up at the new Castle Mokrice club house, with its pro-shop, changing rooms, golf restaurant and pleasant, sunny terrace overlooking the 18th fairway. Eight comfortable golf suites provide a perfect place to stay while playing at Mokrice Castle Golf Course, while a conference hall in the club house provides a wonderful setting for a private event. Day visitors are welcome at the Golf Course Castle Mokrice (4*), while those planning a longer stay can book accommodation at the golf suites in the heart of the course, enjoy the historic corridors and cosy rooms of the Castle itself, or be based at one of a choice of hotels at the Terme Čatež spa resort, 8kms away. To help ease tired golf muscles, a visit to the soothing, warm waters of Slovenia’s largest spa resort, Terme Čatež, just 8 kms away, provides opportunities for indoor and outdoor swimming in the Thermal Riviera, a relaxing Chinese, Thai and Indian massage, a session in the Sauna park, or the chance to experience Terme Čatež’s unique 2-hour relaxing Roman-Irish baths. The new Spa & Wellness Centre offers individual treatments and exclusive programmes for well-being.
