Journey overview

Mallorca

When Pepe Gancedo surveyed the beautiful countryside around Canyamel, he knew that he needed to spoil Mallorca as little as possible when designing the course.

As a result, this course has been developed taking into account many of the existing features. The little house on the 9th hole was preserved, as were the typical dry stone walls on the 7th, 13th, 14th and 15th, where they come into play across and adjacent to the fairways.

This is a course of two contrasting halves. The first nine holes are quite difficult, with hole 5 offering a particularly excellent view of Menorca. The second nine holes are longer and flatter than the first, but make for an excellent and challenging round of golf.

The European PGA visited the course and proposed a series of modifications which have now been carried out. The PGA have classified Canyamel Golf Course as an ideal course for playing an Open event.

Among its facilities Canyamel Golf offers a double driving range for 40 people, 2 putting greens, a pitching green and a practice bunker. In addition to this, at the Club House there is a restaurant, showers and lockers and a lounge with video.

What Clients Say:

The interesting first nine holes flow sympathetically within the natural landscape and utilise existing features (old barns etc) to good effect. The second nine is marginally weaker, set in flatter land, but still provides thoughtful challenges. The greens are excellent - receptive, fast and true. The whole course is well presented without being twee, and provides a fair test for all standards of golfer. The spacious clubhouse is impressive being smart and well designed. One is welcomed by courteous, attractive staff keen to please. The Pro's shop is carefully stocked with clothes and equipment (but not golf clubs), and there are super practice facilities (hitting downhill off grass). Good food and beer are served efficiently in the bar and restaurant or on the (windy) terrace which overlooks the 18th green, providing a great spot to enjoy the travails of others coping with this final, quirky par 3. The green fee is for a full day making Canyamel excellent value and well worth a visit. Nov 12

This course is a hidden gem. It has had less money spent on it than its neighbour, however, the course has some very good holes. The back nine is longer than the front and contains three par 5's. It is quite flat and winds gently through olive groves. Course condition generally good. This course is walkable but in warm weather the back nine can be long. The clubhouse is not particularly inspiring and has the appearance of a roadside cafe. The food is OK. If a little money was to be spent on the club house and dining facilities it would greatly improve the general ambience of the place. They do not have many buggies for hire so it is worth booking these in advance. Oct 12

This course is really beautiful. This, combined with the high difficulty of several holes, and the quality and the complexity of the greens, makes it a special place. May 12

At Canyamel they always make us welcome, and as the course was in excellent condition it was a pleasure to play. The only problem we encountered was that the hire of electric trolleys was not available. Apr 12

No poor holes. Great condition throughout. Very picturesque. Oct 11

Played this course in 2006 and it was good. Now it is VERY good! All the guys had a great time, even if the scores weren't quite what they wanted to shoot! Jun 11

Initial welcome friendly; good course; good facilities; but bar prices a bit high. Nov 10

Right for our standard of golf. Good facilities and friendly, helpful staff. Sep 10

Always a challenge, especially the greens. Sep 09

Course was in excellent condition even though we had had a lot of rain the previous two days. The wild flowers were stunning and the whole course was delightful. May 08

Excellent condition and a really stiff challenge. Greens like Augusta. May 08

A course that offered varying degrees of difficulty, especially the quick greens. Oct 07

The greens were like snooker tables, not the best course but by far the best greens. May 07
